How to share tags between pages tutorial

September 12, 2009 00:11 by Taggify

This short tutorial explains previous post more detailed.

Let's imagine we have personal automitive blog. Our blog has main page containing hronological feed of entries and separate pages for each blog entry conianing complete post. Also old blog's entries go to archive divided on many pages too. Without sharing tags between pages we will need to re-create tags for each image many times for each type of pages. Using tags sharing it will need to create tags only once.

Step 1: Generate widget HTML code with "Scope" parameter

At first step we generate widget HTML code using the wizard and doing the same actions as described in the post "How to add advanced tooltips for people on your photo" with only difference:  we provide new parameter "Scope" that is simple string having clear meaning for you. As shown on the screenshot below scope may be even "abcde" string and it joins the set of pages sharing the same tags.

After code generated you need to add it to all pages those will  share the same tags set. In our case those pages are main page, archive pages and blog post template.

Step 2: Create new post and visual tags

Our post will contain Tramontana R Edition custom car photo taken on nice website BurnMyCar.com containing a lot of tuning, custom and official cars photos. We would like to describe some parts of the picture to explain some technical details of the vehicle using Taggify tooltip.

After post is created let's add tooltip which marks and describes car's engine on the photo. It's enough to create visual tag only once on the post page. You can see how it looks moving mouse over the picture below.

Tramontana R Edition

Step 3: It's all

Actually it's all - now this picture will automatically get the same visual tags on every page where you installed the widget code generated at step #1 , i.e. on the post page, main page and all archive pages.

Enjoy!

Share tags between pages

September 11, 2009 21:12 by Taggify

New feature has been intoduced recently which allow to share tags for the same image between different pages.

Previously scope of the tag was restricted by the page where it is created. If you have the image which is displayed on 2 pages and want to show the same tags for it on both pages you was needed to create these tags twice for each page since tags created on one page didn't work on other page.

Now you have a possibility to share tags between pages without re-creating them for each page. For that use new Taggify wizard parameter named "Scope".

If two pages contain the widget code generated with the same value of parameter "Scope" then these pages will share tags for the same images. You will need to create tags for the image only once and then these tags will be shown for that image on all pages having the same parameter "Scope".

If you do not specify "Scope" parameter then widget will work as earlier, i.e. scope of tags will be restricted by the page of their creation.

NOTE: Please use "Scope" parameter with a caution since it may affect on how fast your website is loading in the browser.

Imagine your website has a lot of pages each containing many images with many tags. If most of images are presented on single page only but all pages share the same "scope" then it will cause a lot of unnecessary traffic from server to visitor's browser for sending all tags for all existent images for each page and the website will be loading slowly.

Use the same scope parameters only for pages having the same images with the same tags.

New version of Taggify widget is available

March 9, 2009 20:03 by Taggify

After a long long delay we are glad to release a new version of Taggify widget. New version  differs from old one a little bit, but contains few important fixes and features requested by our users many times :

  • New option is introduced which allows to turn-off labels below the image

Earlier title for each tooltip you added to the image has been injected below the target image. Previously it was impossible to remove it and in some cases it broken desing. Now you have that option – just go to the new widget wizard , generate the html code with the option "No text labels below the image" and paste new HTML code to your webpage.

Turn on 'No text labels below the image' switch
  • Now you can specify background color for the tooltip’s body

There is not great set of colors yet for your choise, but it will be extending continuosly. Hope it will help to fit widget in your design better. You can specify background color in 2 places - first time you specify default background color when you generate HTML code in widget wizard and second time you can change it when you edit tooltip using Taggify editor.

Specify default tooltip's background in the widget's wizard
Specify default tooltip's background in the widget's wizard

Specify background for certain tooltip when editingit in Taggify editor
Specify background for certain tooltip when editing it in Taggify editor

  • The old annoying bug with tooltip “flickering” has been fixed

Fixing of other bugs in progress ...

Enjoy new version and let us know at support@taggify.net if have any questions or problems.

Now it's time to add textual notes for designated person. Straight away after you have created new bounding rectangle the widget shows editing form that you have to fill with your notes. There is only one obligatory field - the "Title", other fields are optional. You can use some HTML tags in the "Text" field - <I>, <A>, <B>, <U>, <FONT> and <IMG>. Also you can specify the url that visitor will be redirected to (in a new window) when click on the region. Let's add some brief information about these people from Wikipedia and make reference to the original articles.
